JC books are quirky & have an assortment of characters and this is no less. The heroine & her younger sister come into town to shoot a video with a dubious star, it is a change for them since they always shoot weddings & their welcome is marred by an accident with a stuffy old man & his wife and the heroine who knows small towns & comes from a family of cons knows that things will not be great for them ahead.

The hero is a mayor only because it is a family legacy but is thoroughly bored by the job, all his town people are stuffy & orthodox & all his mother thinks about is getting him married. There are crazy accidents, a responsible heroine cutting loose after years of trying to deny her wild genes, a con man brother wanting to beat the hero, a porn movie being made & all crazy drama that makes Cruise's books so wonderful. Her romance always doesn't take the sweet & light part & this is no less, they are complete opposites for each other & yet so right.

Sophie lowered her chin. "If this is your pathetic attempt to seduce me again, you're falling miserably."

"I don't seduce woman." Phin shoved back his chair and stood up. "They fall into my open arms." "Clumsy of them.”

“Sophie held the [hand]cuffs higher, hopint to instill some sense of shame, if not in him, then at least in herself. One look at him and she wanted him again. "I found them in the bed." "That makes sense," Phin said. "That's where I lost them." "I'd ask what you were doing with them," Sophie said, trying not to sound bitchy, "but I probably don't want to know, do I?" "Sure you do. It was exciting and different and depraved." Phin nodded toward the stairs. "Go put them someplace we can find them, and I'll show you later.”
